Facts On Bulova Watches

Bulova is a company that makes clocks as well as watches. It has its headquarter in New York City. Joseph Bulova, an émigré from Bohemia, is the founder of this brand. He
established the company under the name J. Bulova Company in the year 1875. The company was renamed in 1923 as Bulova Watch Company. In 1979 the company even became a part of Loews Corporation. Bulova watches have in fact carved a niche in the watch industry in today’s world.

The brand has made innovations in watch manufacturing and developed several tools for watch making. Its horological modernism consisted of Accutron watch, which made use of vibrating tuning forks for adjusting or controlling time keeping function. In 1960s, the company got involved in a space age conflict with Omega, another watch brand. The topic of rivalry was---which watch brand was first worn on moon. Finally, it was Omega’s Speedmaster Professional chronograph wristwatch, designated by NASA that was tagged as the first timepiece to be worn on moon. This watch was on Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin’s wrist. However, the time keeping mechanisms and all instrumental panel clocks in spacecraft on that operation were Bulova Accutrons. The tuning fork movement in the Bulova watches have been discontinued and the present ‘Astronaut’ model under the Accutron line features automatic ETA SA movement, thereby making it same as Omega.

Presently, the brand designs, produces and markets different collections of watches such as Caravelle, Wittnauer Swiss, Marine Star and Accutron. In 2010, the company even introduced the Precisionist, a new kind of quartz watch in the watch making industry.
