Tissot’s first watch was introduced in the year 1853. The brand is mainly popular for manufacturing the first pocket watch and a pocket watch with two time zones. Tissot has also manufactured the first anti-magnetic timepiece in the watch making industry in the year 1929-30. The company was also the first one to make timepieces of mother of pearl, wood, stone and plastic. In the year 1930, the watch brand Tissot merged with another watch brand Omega. However, since then buyers are not buying Tissot watches but Tissot-Omega watches.

Based in Switzerland and present in 150 countries of the world, Tissot watches are a member of the biggest watch manufacture and distributor in world, The Swatch Group Ltd, since 1983. The watch brand, Tissot, is actually an official timekeeper for world championships in motorcycling, cycling, ice hockey and fencing and was used for Downhill Skiing in 1938 and 1957’s Davis Cup. The brand was even the main sponsor for Formula 1 teams Renault, Lotus and Sauber. The company’s first involvement as official timekeeper was in the year 1938. In this year, the company timed a number of Ski races near Jura mountains.

Today, Tissot watches are working with different sporting bodies for developing a system to come up with more exact timings for the special events. The brand has mainly become popular for its T-Touch. Many new timepieces have sapphire glasses, barometers, compasses, thermometers and altimeters. 

Celebrities who have worn these watches include Angelina Jolie, Sarah Bernhardt, Elvis Presley, Carmen Miranda, James Stewart, Nelson Mandela and Kamal Hassan.
